To start we woke up and made trip donuts. Also because it was so close to Fourth of July, Christina and I brought American gear to wear into Basecamp. We set up an ‘American Apparel Store’ at our campsite and had our campers pay us in high fives, compliments, and firewood to choose their gear.
We arrived to Basecamp as the second to last group and we had made a “Death Canoe”. We put all the gear from one canoe into another and had both Christina and I duffing in the canoe without gear. We also were greeted by Bridget and Tenzin’s group who were dressed for Canada Day.
The rest of the day was filled with cleaning up.
Today was our island day. After breakfast we had our cabin cleaning contest. For this session we did a crime scene theme. We had two people pretending to be dead bodies and the rest were detectives looking for the ‘Cleaning Bandit”. When Sue and Nate walked into the guide porch they found the cleaning bandit fleeing the scene.
For the most of my day I spent it painting a wilderness award on a paddle for one of our campers. At Laketrails they have an award called the Wilderness Award (WA) that is given to campers that have great soft skills and bring the group together as a team or help raise spirits. We also take into consideration their hard skills; were they able to contribute to the trip and did they do what needed to be done without asking. Our camper that we were giving our WA to really liked fishing so we painted a fish tail on the shaft of the paddle and a fishing scene on the blade.
I finished painting just in time for our island Olympics. We did some games on the lawn that had the campers running around and getting warm before we moved them to water games. For the water games I got to guard from the kayak as campers raced canoes, did canoe tug-of-war, relay races and a sand castle building competition.
The night ended with the closing campfire filled with fun skits of everyone’s trips and lots of WAs given out.
